The role of a Guard at GWR extends beyond ticket verification; it encompasses ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the entire train experience.

Passenger Interaction: As the central figure of the journey, you will ensure everything runs seamlessly for passengers from start to finish. Your role begins with welcoming passengers on board, providing a warm and professional presence to ensure they feel safe and comfortable. You act as a host, creating a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone traveling with us.


Ticketing: Managing ticket sales and verification is a key responsibility. You deliver efficient and friendly service that enhances the journey and upholds GWR’s commitment to excellent customer care.


Handling Disruptions: In the event of delays or disruptions, you play a critical role in keeping passengers informed, assisting them in navigating any challenges, and helping them reach their destination. Your ability to remain composed under pressure is vital to maintaining passenger trust and confidence.

Customer Interaction: As the face of our on-train experience, you will ensure every passenger receives a warm welcome and attentive service. You will be the primary point of contact for any questions or queries, providing guidance and ensuring passengers feel at ease from the moment they board.

Food and Beverage Service: You will serve high-quality meals and snacks to passengers, ranging from a hearty bacon sandwich with coffee in the morning to a refreshing glass of wine in the evening. Additionally, you will manage the first-class refreshment trolley, offering items such as beers and spirits to enhance the passenger experience.

Cleanliness and Maintenance: Maintaining cleanliness is a crucial aspect of your role. You will ensure that all train carriages are kept neat and tidy at all times, contributing to a pleasant environment for passengers.
