Tram Operations is a FirstGroup subsidiary that operates a contract for Transport for London. With over 20 million passenger journeys a year, London Trams has some of the busiest routes in the country, operating over 4,800 services each week across the tramway.
Providing inter-urban, cross-borough services to passengers in Southwest London, between London Wimbledon and New Addington, Beckenham Junction and Elmers End to Croydon. London Trams provides excellent connectivity with the National Rail stations in the region, such as East Croydon, Wimbledon, Elmers End and Beckenham Junction to name a few.
As well as commuters and business travellers, we transport leisure travellers across London, to many tourist and heritage sites, and to numerous major sporting and social events that take place along the route every year. Providing easy and convenient mobility, where all the tram stops on the tramway have step-free access, improving quality of life by connecting people and communities, of which we are proud to serve.

One of our excellent Tram Drivers operating one of the trams.
Safety Training Days and Staff Development are important for us for continuous development and improvement.
"One of the more challenging things about this role is the fact that you will be expected to concentrate for such lengthy periods of time. Concentrating as a tram driver is not the same as any other job either. It means really concentrating, being completely focused on the track/signals/the tram cab to make sure that things are running smoothly.
As a tram driver, we need to keep customer service and health and safety in mind at all times when driving trams. This extends to behaviour such as making important announcements, opening and closing the doors, and updating/apologising to customers for delays. Tram drivers need to be aware of hazards on the track, and must be capable of noticing small and important details.
Furthermore, we need to have an extensive knowledge of your route, in order to deliver our passengers to their destination."
"There are many aspects of being a duty manager that can excite you. Some people enjoy the responsibility and challenge of leading a team, while others enjoy the opportunity to mentor and develop others.
Additionally, managing an operational team can be incredibly rewarding, as you are able to see the positive influence of your efforts on the team's performance and success and the impact on the wider community who use the Tramway.
The best part of being a manager is the ability to make decisions on a day to day basis, to enable us as a team to deliver a safe and reliable service, for our customers."
"As part of the Revenue Team, we actively minimise fraud and ticketless travel whilst providing information and assistance to customers.
Alongside our supportive colleagues, we are out and about travelling on our trams and being present at our tramstops. We inspect customers' tickets, interview suspected fare evaders; and complete paperwork. For this role you need tact and diplomacy, a cool, calm nature, and great written and verbal communication skills.
“Even when issuing a penalty fare, it is important to focus on customer service – if someone you’ve issued a penalty fare to walks away saying 'thank you', we know we’ve done a great job!”
"Tram drivers can go home at the end of their working day knowing their job makes a difference to other people's lives.
They also do their bit for the environment by operating electric public transport. (You might say it’s is a good career choice for the more introverted, as tram drivers will spend long periods alone!)
Tram drivers take charge of getting people across the UK to work, holidays and home on time. Our job involves skill, concentration and technical know-how. I find my job hugely rewarding; as it gives me the chance to work independently and literally take the driving seat with my career."
