Please check whether the vacancy has closed – if it has, you won’t be able to submit your application. We recommend submitting your application as soon as possible as some roles close early due to high volumes.

Depending on the type of role you have applied for, the next stage will either be an online assessment(s), which we will invite you to complete, or your application will be shortlisted for its suitability to the role. We will contact you by email with the outcome of your application or online assessment, whether you are successful or unsuccessful.

If your application has been rejected at shortlisting stage, due to the very high number of applications we receive, we are unable to provide candidates with feedback, unfortunately.

Apologies for the delay you are experiencing with this. It’s likely that we are waiting to receive an update on your application from the recruiting Manager. You will be updated via email with any developments on your application, regardless of whether it’s been successful or unsuccessful. If you’d like to speak with someone about your outstanding application, please contact us.

Our online assessments can vary depending on the type of role you have applied for, but will require you to meet a minimum standard in order to progress. This might be looking at your customer service, verbal, and numerical skills, or your ability to concentrate. We recommend you complete the assessment as soon as possible, however please ensure you are somewhere quiet and have enough time to complete the assessment to the best of your ability. Most of our tests are untimed but take about 10-20 minutes to complete on average.

Firstly, please check that the online assessment is the same as the one you’ve already completed. If it is the same assessment, and you’ve already passed it within the last 6 months, you will not need to re-take it. If this is the case, please contact us and we will adjust your application status accordingly.

If you have a disability or condition that means you will have difficulty with one of our online assessments, please contact us to discuss this before you start the assessment.

For all assessments and interviews, we recommend you dress smartly. If you are taking part in a driving assessment, please ensure you wear suitable shoes for driving.

Please bring your right to work documents and photo ID. (If you have a British passport this will be both your ID and your right to work) - you can check what documents are acceptable here.

If you have a disability or condition that means you will have difficulty with a face-to-face assessment or interview, please contact us to discuss this ahead of your assessment or interview date.

If it is very close to the assessment/interview date, please contact us to let us know you are unable to attend. If it is more than 48 hours before your assessment/interview, please log in to your careers profile and either withdraw your application, if you are no longer interested in the role, or amend your scheduled assessment/interview to 'I can no longer attend’. If further dates are released, we will be able to invite you again, however there are no guarantees.

If you are no longer looking to apply for a vacancy within FirstGroup, you can delete any job alerts you have set up and we will no longer update you with latest vacancies.

If you wish to permanently delete your details, you can do this by logging in to your profile, or alternatively you can contact us.

Unfortunately, we don’t accept speculative applications. For all current vacancies within FirstGroup please check our list of live vacancies here.

If you wish to apply for a vacancy with us you will be required to complete an online application form. We can only accept online applications. We will then contact you with the outcome of your application by email.

There is also the facility to register for job alerts. You can do this via the section at the bottom of our careers homepage, as well as most other pages across our site. When a vacancy becomes available that matches the criteria you have set, you will receive an email notification.

Unfortunately, FirstGroup do not currently operate a Work Experience scheme. If you contact your local bus depot or train station directly, they may be able to arrange something for you or provide you with further advice.
