Stuart M. asked a question to Daniel O.
I am currently a pcv bus driver with First Bus Glasgow. However, I have an HNC in Electronics and an SVQ level 2 in marine electrical engineering. Initially I was looking for a trainee Train driver position, but there seems to be no vacancies. Having already dealt with the responsibility of keeping many passengers safe combined with my aptitude for the technical, I feel the role would be a much better fit for myself. Many thanks for reading my question and thanks in advance for any advice you may have. Stuart McGinley.
Hi Stuart,
From an Avanti point of view, I believe Train Driver Applications are on a rolling basis and you can register your interest by following this link: https://www.avantiwestcoast.co.uk/about-us/careers/train-driver-recruitment
That page will answer all your questions about the recruitment process and stages to complete to become a trainee train driver. Just in case you do not see it, these are the stages:
Stage 1 - Application Form (AWC Hosted)
Stage 1.5 - Online Sift of Applications (Please keep in mind that for the trainee driver process, individuals have 2-lifetime attempts. If they fail any stage more than twice, they are not able to reapply)
Stage 2 - OPC Online Questionnaire and Online Assessments
Stage 3 - OPC Assessment Centre, Paper tests
Stage 4 - OPC Face to Face Assessment Centre, computer based tests
Stage 5 - Final Interviews & Driver Manager Interview
If you have any other questions on the general work culture at Avanti please feel free to ask.
I hope this helps.
Do you consider applications from Zimbabwe, Africa for the Trainee Train Driver position, or any related position
Hi Edward.
Yes, we consider applications from candidates from all areas, however please be aware that should you be successful in your application, you would require the legal right to work and live in the UK, without sponsorship, ahead of being offered employment.
