About the job:

In this role, you will be responsible for train service performance of the LTV fleet and develop initiatives and schemes to improve. In addition you'll ensure that the LTV Engineering function operates in full compliance with Safety, Fleet, Plant & Equipment, Environmental, and Security standards. You'll play a key part in improving operational efficiency and reducing risk across engineering activities.

  • Identifying and addressing areas of non-compliance with GWR's Engineering Integrated Management System and Safety Management Systems
  • Supporting the wider LTV team by implementing required changes and contributing to improved safety, financial, and technical performance
  • Working closely with the LTV Fleet Manager to deliver strategic objectives

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Leading the Depot Engineering Manager and Plant teams to ensure their objectives align with the overall business plan
  • Driving performance improvements across safety, compliance, and operational delivery
  • Supporting strategic initiatives and ensuring engineering activities meet GWR's standards and expectations

You'll need to be: 

  • Highly organised and committed to excellence
  • Flexible and resilient under pressure
  • Capable of managing multiple complex tasks and tight deadlines
  • A strong communicator with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Operationally knowledgeable and confident in decision-making 

Essential Experience and Qualifications: 

  • Proven line management experience
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety standards (OHSAS 18001)
  • Familiarity with Quality & Environmental systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001)
  • Knowledge of supplier assessment processes
  • Experience with EMU and DMU fleets
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of delivering business-critical outcomes

About the location:

Your primary base will be Reading Train Care Depot, with travel required across the LTV network and occasionally beyond. While your core hours will follow a standard business schedule, flexibility is essential, and out-of-hours work may be necessary to meet operational demands.
