About the team?

The Driver Training and Development team sits within the wider Driver team and is a busy, vibrant department full of people who are passionate about delivering training and assessment to the highest standards

About the job?

As a Driver Learning Manager, you'll be delivering a wide range of training and assessment, predominantly to drivers but also to other grades in the business. You'll be at the forefront of delivering huge transformation to our customers both internal and external as we deliver traction conversions, initial driver training and additional development sessions to our driver community.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • To deliver learning, development, and assessments across locations within the business that meet current Great Western Railway and railway group standards
  • Manage trainee drivers during initial training ensuring high standards are being met
  • Work with the Training Policy team to develop and maintain training programmes
  • Promote and demonstrate good safety behaviours
  • Maintain accurate records of training and give great feedback

You'll need to be:

  • Enthusiastic, passionate about development and able to inspire
  • Flexible and open minded to new ideas
  • Keen to promote and work within an inclusive environment
  • Literate in the primary Office 365 applications

As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • Previous experience of training or coaching
  • At least 3 years main line train driving experience
  • Attention to detail
  • The ability to work as part of a team and the initiative to work unsupervised
  • The capability to work flexible hours throughout locations in Great Western Railway, including Bristol, Exeter, Newton Abbot, Plymouth, and Reading
  • Suitable qualifications in training and assessment (although training can be provided)

About the location?

Although you will report into Bristol Driver Training Academy, your work will take you across the network and travel will be required as mentioned above.

Working Pattern?

You will mostly be working Monday – Friday, however weekend and bank holiday work is required when necessary and early and late training and assessment schedules mean “out of hours” training is common. Flexibility will be required to meet business needs.
