About the team:

You will be joining an established team of experienced Driver Standards Managers based at Exeter, covering a wide variety of backgrounds from past roles. At Exeter, we take pride in delivering for our customers and keeping our services and our customers moving. This is an Operational management role. You will work as part of the Driver Management Team at Exeter reporting to the Driver Depot Manager as part of the West Region Driver Management structure.

About the job: main responsibilities will be:

  • Line management of Drivers: welfare, conduct, attendance
  • The coordination of GWR's competence management systems for safety critical operational staff, focusing primarily on Drivers.
  • Driver recruitment and training activities
  • Incident/accident investigations and due diligence checks
  • Safety briefings of Drivers
  • On call commitment

You'll need to be:

Able to supply subject matter expertise relating to the development of company standards and working practices.

Are you able to work flexibly and efficiently, while being a strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communications skills?

Do you enjoy learning, adapting to change, while being self-motivated, committed to delivering results with minimum supervision and able to use initiative appropriately?

Are you able to work methodically and create / maintain accurate records?

As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • Excellent knowledge of GWR operations and standards
  • Good Microsoft Office skills
  • 6317 or A1 certification would be an advantage, although training in this area can be provided
  • Previous line management experience
  • Experience of managing trade union relationships
  • A minimum of 3 years current Train Driver competence

About the location:

The Driver Team situated in purpose-built accommodation at Exeter St David's.  We have our crew accommodation, meeting / training facilities all located in the same building. 

Working Pattern:

At Exeter, we are all about an around the clock 7-day railway.  We cover trains or operations “on call” to a maximum frequency of 1 in 3 weeks.  Our standard MS contract arrangements of 37 hours per week apply.
