About the team:

The Drivers team in the East Region is an exciting and forward-looking part of the business.

Oxford depot plays a key role within the GWR network, offering a challenging yet highly rewarding working environment. Drivers at these locations operate across multiple traction types, including Class 80x, 387 and 16X fleets, covering a diverse range of routes.

As a Driver Standards Manager, you will be part of a large, supportive team working collaboratively across the East Region to deliver a safe, reliable, and high-quality service.

About the Role:

The Driver Standards Manager is a critical operational role at the heart of our business. You will be responsible for ensuring that our Drivers have the competence, knowledge, and support required to consistently deliver a first-class service.

Managing your own team within the wider depot structure, you will play a key role in both competence management and people leadership, providing guidance, support, and direction to help Drivers perform at their best.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise in the development and application of company standards and working practices
  • Support the delivery of a safe and reliable railway through effective competence management
  • Lead, coach, and support your team to achieve high performance standards
  • Work collaboratively across the depot and wider region to deliver business objectives
  • Operate with a high level of autonomy, demonstrating accountability and sound decision-making

 About you

You will be a motivated and adaptable individual with a strong commitment to safety, performance, and continuous improvement.

You will:

  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Be a strong team player with a collaborative approach
  • Be able to adapt to change and embrace new ways of working
  • Work in a structured and methodical manner, maintaining accurate records
  • Be willing to undertake on-call duties, including early and late shifts

As a minimum you'll need to have:

  • Mainline train driving competence.
  • A positive attitude to learning and development.

Desirable Skills & Experience

  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • D31/D32 or A1 Assessor qualification
  • Previous line management experience
  • Strong knowledge of operational rules and standards

Working Pattern:

On call hours and as required to suit the needs of the business
