About the job

We are recruiting for a Fleet Engineer to support Lumos service delivery. The post holder will support the Engineering Team in all aspects of their functionality and ensure compliance with the Safety Management System. They will hold key accountability for ensuring all aspects of the performance regime are monitored, analysed and tracked in a robust fashion. Project management of ongoing industry initiatives as required. Provide Fleet On-Call cover to support during times of incident and disruption.

 

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Collaborative working with third party maintainers to meet the availability requirements of service provision.
  • Support Fleet Delivery Managers in investigating safety, reliability and performance issues
  • Review all incidents reported within the control log by collating evidence from the maintainer, Route Control, Train Crew, and any other pertinent source, and commence attribution discussions with relevant internal or external departments
  • Review remedial action taken by third party maintainers and ensure compliance with relevant processes, standards and approvals
  • Review, analyse and implement engineering change process, working closely with third party maintainers.
  • Analyse all performance data to identify failure trends; develop rectification, performance and engineering plans including necessary modifications to address those issues, taking into consideration the Engineering Change and Maintenance & Overhaul Policies
  • Attend and represent Lumo and Hull Trains in industry wide discussions associated with ECDP
  • Project management of industry initiatives including ECDP
  • Attend reliability and performance meetings
  • Compile accident/incident investigations and complete reports
  • Auditing of third-party suppliers
  • Support train rescue during incidents, on site or remotely as required
  • Be part of a 24/7 on call roster

 

As a minimum, you will need to have:

  • Experience in fleet operations and previous roles aligned to service delivery
  • The ability to work as part of an effective Engineering Team understanding the ultimate business goals and supporting the department to achieve their overall business objectives
  • Proactive with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Comprehensive standard of education, with a strong background in engineering specific to the Rail Industry
  • Familiarisation with Class 80x rolling stock
  • Familiar with or able to accept training on office-based software suits e.g. SAP, HFMT, SOROS, MS office and any other system relevant to the role.
  • Audit qualifications to support full review of engineering procedures and suppliers or a willingness to work towards one

 

About the location

Based in Hull, Newcastle, or Edinburgh, with extensive travel between these locations and beyond to support the Fleet.

 

Working pattern

37.5 hours per week, with on call responsibilities.
