About the job

We are recruiting a Fleet Engineer on a 6 month fixed term contract, with the potential to become a permanent contract. Our Fleet Engineer will be an integral part of our Lumo-Stirling service and requires a Fleet Engineer to operate services safely and efficiently while delivering an exceptional customer experience.  

You will be responsible for reviewing and implementing fleet modification and upgrade projects, requiring reviews of various documents relating to scheduled maintenance, as well as analysing performance data to look for maintenance optimisation initiatives. 

The Fleet Engineer will support Lumo Stirling Trains service delivery. The post holder will support the Engineering Team in all aspects of their functionality and ensure compliance with the Safety Management System. They will hold key accountability for ensuring all aspects of the performance regime and Train Service Agreement are monitored, analysed and tracked in a robust fashion. Project management of ongoing industry initiatives as required. Provide Fleet out of office support during times of incident and disruption.

 

About you:

  • Experience in fleet operations and previous roles aligned to service delivery including contract management.
  • The ability to work as part of an effective Engineering Team understanding the ultimate business goals and supporting the department to achieve their overall business objectives.
  • Proactive with a pragmatic approach to problem solving.
  • Comprehensive standard of education, with a strong background in engineering specific to the Rail Industry. 
  • Familiarisation with Class 222 rolling stock. 
  • Familiar with and accept training on office-based software suits e.g. SAP, HFMT, SOROS, MS office and any other system relevant to the role. 
  • Audit qualifications to support full review of engineering procedures and suppliers. 
  • This role involves regular travel, so flexibility and willingness to travel are essential.

 

Key accountabilities:

  • Collaborative working with third party maintainers to meet the availability requirements of service provision.
  • Support Fleet department in investigating safety, reliability and performance issues.
  • Reviews all incidents reported within the control log by collating evidence from the maintainer, Route Control, Train Crew, and any other pertinent source, and commence attribution discussions with relevant internal or external departments.
  • Reviews remedial action, taken by third party maintainers and ensure compliance with relevant processes, standards and approvals.
  • Analyses all performance data to identify failure trends; develop rectification, performance and engineering plans including necessary modifications to address those issues, considering the Engineering Change and Maintenance & Overhaul Policies.
  • Project management of industry initiatives. 
  • Attends reliability and performance meetings.
  • Compiles accident/Incident investigations and complete reports.
  • Auditing of third-party suppliers. 
  • Support train rescue during incidents.
  • Provides 24/7 first line fleet support for third parties and the wider business.
  • Management of Engineering change process and train configuration.
