We are transforming the way people think about train travel, empowering our team of nearly 7,000 people from diverse backgrounds to make it a great experience for our customers.  Together, we will revalue rail as a very special way to travel – sustainable, fast, efficient and friendly.

What is the job?

GWR is seeking an exceptional individual to lead the On-Board team in the GWR East Region. This role leads a large multi-site team covering the area from Worcester through the North Cotswolds and the Thames Valley and includes the Worcester, Swindon, Reading, Redhill and Paddington depots.  The On-Board function is responsible for Train Managers and Conductors, Catering crews and Revenue Protection colleagues in the region.

The Regional Manager leads a team of senior managers across a range of key GWR roles accountable for safety, customer service, colleague wellbeing, on train revenue and train performance within the region.

The Regional manager will be responsible for liaison with local and regional Trade Union colleagues and must be a capable negotiator, able to achieve consensus in challenging situations.  A strong focus on colleague and management development, wellbeing and resilience is crucial.

Ideally holding a minimum of a first degree, candidates will be able to demonstrate a record of continuous career learning and must be comfortable using a range of IT based reporting and communications applications. The ability to create impactful reports is essential and ideally some experience of preparing business plans or formal change proposals.

Where is the job located?

The ideal candidate will live within easy access of the GWR rail network and in particular the East region within which day-to-day travel is necessary. The role is primarily on-site based although occasional remote working is possible.

As well as a great team environment and comprehensive training, all GWR colleagues enjoy a range of benefits including on-going development, defined benefit pension scheme, free rail travel across the GWR network for you and your family, company-sponsored health care plan, discounted shopping and gym membership, and an employee assistance programme.

We all belong at GWR. This is our vision for providing an inclusive environment for all our colleagues, ensuring all candidates have an equal opportunity to access meaningful employment.
