About the role:

Known internally as Crew Delivery Manager, this role is responsible for the critical task of ensuring train crew (drivers, guards and catering colleagues) are in the right place, at the right time across the entire GWR network.

It's a highly demanding, dynamic position that requires managing a wide range of responsibilities, including overseeing the resource desk, working closely with various teams locally and across the network and forward planning the train service. You will also be involved in implementing emergency train plans, managing service disruption and recovery whilst supporting colleagues who may need additional assistance. This role will not involve any responsibilities related to line management.

A significant aspect of this role involves extensive administrative duties. You will handle various paperwork, update schedules, communicate with crew members, and utilise specialised computer packages unique to the railway industry, such as Trust, CrewPlan, and Integrale. The role is desk-based, and once on shift, you'll take control, managing crews within your designated area on our network. This requires a high level of organisation, precision and the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The position is fast-paced and highly demanding, requiring resilience and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Our team plays a vital part in ensuring the timely delivery of the timetable for our customers while balancing the needs of our staff. It's a role that demands flexibility, problem-solving skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances on a moment's notice.

To help determine if this role is right for you, consider the following questions:

- Are you genuinely interested in a challenging and demanding role in the rail industry?

- Have you had hands-on experience managing or overseeing day-to-day operations in a specific industry or role.

- Can you be dependable in a high-pressure environment?

- Can you communicate in a clear concise manner using the telephone?

- Are you flexible enough to meet the evolving needs of the business?

- Are you confident working alone and as part of a close-knit team?

- Can you stay calm and focused during stressful situations?

- Are you quick to think on your feet and solve problems when decisions are critical?

- Can you work shifts around the clock, including nights, weekends and holidays?

- Are you willing to learn in a fast-paced environment, understanding that initial training lasts approximately 10-12 weeks and is based on live desk experience?

- Are you committed to continuously developing your skills? This role is competency-based, with regular assessments to ensure high standards are maintained.

If you answered ‘Yes' to all these questions, then we encourage you to read on. If you responded ‘No' to some questions, please consider whether a control-based role like this aligns with your skills and strengths.
