About the job

We're looking for an organised and proactive individual to take responsibility for the timely production and maintenance of train crew rosters for both Customer Drivers and Customer Experience Ambassadors.

You'll play a key role in ensuring that rosters, diagrams, and staffing arrangements are managed efficiently and accurately, supporting both operational performance and colleague wellbeing.

This is a fast-paced and detail-oriented role where you'll help ensure our teams are in the right place at the right time, while maintaining compliance with fatigue management standards and company procedures.

Based in our Preston Office, you will be the main point of contact for all rostering-related queries for colleagues, you will play a key part in our growing team and helping to create an inclusive and positive workplace culture.

 

About you:

You will live within a 60-minute commute of our Preston office. You'll be a self-motivated and highly organised individual, ideally with experience in staff scheduling or rostering, either within the rail industry or a similar operational environment.

You'll have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and influence colleagues at all levels.
Analytical and IT-savvy, you'll be confident using systems such as Excel to create, interpret, and present data.

 

You'll need to have:

  • Knowledge of rostering systems and principles, terms and conditions, and roster development
  • An understanding of train crew diagramming patterns and fatigue management processes
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • A customer-focused approach, acting as an ambassador for the company
  • The ability to adapt quickly, embrace new technology, and work well under pressure

There are no formal educational requirements for this role; however, you should be educated to a good standard and able to demonstrate relevant experience and capability.

 

Key accoutabilities:

  • Complete train crew rosters (Customer Drivers and Customer Experience Ambassadors) in a timely and accurate manner
  • Post roster and diagram changes within agreed timescales
  • Ensure efficient rostering that aligns with working hour requirements and safety standards
  • Coordinate release of train crew for training, briefings, assessments, and medicals
  • Produce amended diagrams to meet short-term planning requirements
  • Prepare and submit overtime returns for each period
  • Monitor fairness and effectiveness of work and rest day patterns
  • Manage leave requests and maintain accurate leave records
  • Monitor fatigue in line with our standards, producing reports as required
  • Track and respond to shift swaps, sickness absences, and additional duties
  • Produce daily working sheets for Customer Ambassadors and Drivers
  • Maintain up-to-date records of driver route and traction knowledge
  • Liaise with Driver Instructors and Experience Team Managers to ensure timely assessments
  • Arrange accommodation, travel, and taxis as required
  • Support data analysis and performance reporting, contributing to continuous improvement

 

About the location

Working pattern

37.5 hours per week with on-call duties.
