As our Head of Health and Safety, you will report directly to the Service Delivery Director. The role will involve the development of the existing health and safety strategy, annual safety plan and delivery of safety aspects of our 6-year business plan. Participating as a proactive member of the Executive Team and supporting the senior management team on the company's safety objectives. You should be at the forefront of what's new in HSE, advising the senior team, implementing new initiatives and building on existing systems. Your leadership style, professional management and coaching ability will help support employee welfare throughout the business.

 

Core responsibilities/duties include:

  • Management and development of the strategic Security, Safety, Quality and Environment plans.
  • Carrying out a continuous gap analysis of existing environmental, health and safety management procedures.
  • Maintaining ISO9001:2015 accreditation
  • Ensuring that all colleagues are trained and fully understand the agreed safe systems of work and continually promoting a culture of best practice across the business.
  • Audit and development of existing risk assessments and method statements ensuring that TOL's operations are managed to ALARP levels.
  • Maintaining a good appreciation of relevant legislation and industry good practice, identification of emerging performance trends, and application of robust safety controls.
  • Maintaining the sufficiency of the existing health and safety management framework.
  • To instil in all colleagues the desire to instinctively act in a safe manner and fully participate in the company's arrangements for implementing, monitoring, and improving safety.
  • Development of technological advancements to improve efficiency.

 

The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for health and safety within the business and will ideally be educated to degree level. Qualified or working towards NEBOSH at diploma level or other equivalent qualification and/or other professional affiliation (CMIOSH, MCIRO). Ideally you will have a track record in safety management (minimum of 5 years' experience), preferably with 2 years in the transport industry.

Additional key skills should include:

  • In depth knowledge of all statutory and regulatory requirements applicable to the management of HSE
  • Strategic “Can do” thinker.
  • Excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Highly self-motivated and innovative.
  • Innovative and technical aptitude to drive change.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills that inspire and motivate team members including influencing key stakeholders.
