About the job

The holder of this post is responsible for controlling all train movements in and out of the depot. You will adhere to depot protection, safety, quality and environmental procedures, rules and regulations in force.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Operation of Groundframe and Hand points to control movements into and out of the depot safely.
  • To comply with all relevant rules and regulations.
  • Must adhere to all relevant working instructions for the post, liaise with the duty Movements Manager, depot drivers, shunters and Havant Area signaller on movements as required.
  • Responsible for ensuring a clear understanding with train crews of movements from the depot as necessary, to avoid conflicting moves.
  • Advise the Movements Manager of any problems or defects identified and work arising from the issues.
  • Work effectively as part of a team.
  • Mentor trainee shunters and Shunt Panel operators
  • Ensure all working areas are kept clean and in a safe condition
  • Perform duties of own grade and below as directed and within competency.

You'll need:

  • Successful completion of training and courses relevant to the job.
  • Passed competent in Rules and Regulations.
  • Demonstrate ability to work on own initiative.
  • Thorough knowledge of depot operating instructions/procedures and local safety procedures.
  • Personal Track Safety.

 Applicants who require a visa, must have at least 6 months remaining at the time of their appointment.

Working pattern

Working on average 37 hours per week across an average of 3.5 days / nights

0630-1830 /1830-0630

Including weekends, 4 on 4 off shift pattern
