About the job

To manage and prepare the management accounts for reporting as required in accordance with the arrangements with MTR and FirstRail Holdings following transfer to public ownership.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Produce the periodic financials of First MTR South Western Trains Limited (P&L and balance sheet) P&Ls producing periodic management accounts for presentation of SWR senior management and MTR/First Rail Holdings management, in line with transfer agreement.
  • Working with the Financial Systems Development Manager to ensure that the respective GLs, Internal Work Orders, Initiatives and Asset Codes are setup and available to be used.
  • Work closely with the Financial Controlling team to ensure that we have;
    • Correctly recognised, raised and classified costs, for example, by GL, Profit Centre, IWO, Initiative, Asset Code, and Intercompany Partner, and
    • Correctly recognised, raised and classified revenues.
  • Manage the unwinding of the transfer net asset statement, correctly assigning transactions to the brought forward balance sheet.
  • Ensure that appropriate back up is maintained for all transactions.
  • Ensure that the postings made from the various system interfaces are understood and are accurately posted
  • Manage the balance sheet reconciliations for the balance sheet (ensuring that the transactions posted are accurate and supporting back-up in complete).
  • Produce and maintain process documentation for the regular period end routines.
  • Produce period end analysis of transactions, with variances to budget / forecast, if required.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation to support request for sales invoices or recharges where appropriate
  • Ensure transaction between the two entities are processed correctly and recorded with sufficient detailed supporting documentation.
  • Maintaining and clearing the invoice allocation within Webcycle and ensuring Purchase to Pay process is correctly followed
  • Review Open PO, GRNI, Webcycle reports to ensure that the business is acting upon items in a timely manner.
  • Manage the collation of non-financial supporting information supporting the periodic management accounts submission for MTR / First Rail Holdings, Department for Transport and internally.

You'll need to be:

  • Experienced all-rounder with staff management experience and a minimum of 3-4 years' experience working in a finance management position.
  • Excellent planning, inter-personal and communication skills.
  • Self-starter, able to manage their own workloads independently and influence those supporting the role to meet expectations on timeliness and quality of work produced.
  • Confident in Excel, MS Office; with SAP 4 HANA/SAP BI/SAP BPC an advantage.

About the location

South Western Railways HQ is based on the 4th Floor at South Bank Central, a stone's throw from the River Thames and a 10 minute walk from our busiest station, Waterloo. It is local to many well-known attractions, restaurants and retail facilities and is easily accessible by public transport. 

Working pattern

On average you will work 37 hours per week across 5 days, typically office hours, Monday - Friday.
