For going into an engineering level 3 apprenticeship, would it be better to go into it from GCSEs or A-levels?

This is a personal choice as there is no "better" route to take. If you're confident that an apprenticeship is the path you wish to take then there's no reason why you couldn't look to do that straight after your GCSEs. However, if you're unsure, then achieving A-levels first may give you greater options. I would suggest talking to people who have completed the same or equivalent apprenticeship and see what their experiences taught them, as they may be in a better position to advise.
