Hello, I am a LRT (Light Rail Transit) operator in Canada. Do you hire from other countries and help with the visa?

I absolutely LOVE driving trains and providing a smooth comfortable ride for my passengers. I am looking to make a move to the UK and advance my career. I believe I just missed the applications for Trainee train driver, as I was looking to see what is involved in moving to the UK from Canada.

    Hello Brian,

That's wonderful to hear your enthusiasm for driving trains and providing a great passenger journey 😊

We would have no hesitation in recruiting someone from outside of the UK, however you would be required to hold the current right to live and work in the UK to gain employment with us. Sponsorship opportunities really vary depending on the role, as it would need to be critical to qualify for sponsorship. As such, sponsorship would usually only be possible for roles that require specialist skills or expertise that may not be readily available in the local labour market. Unfortunately, it would be unlikely that a Trainee Train Driver role would meet this criteria. Therefore, if this were to be the role you'd be looking to seek employment for, then the likelihood is that you would need to secure sponsorship from elsewhere before being able to gain employment with us.

    I hope this helps.

Thank you for your reply. I am doing more research on this. I am finding that it only states "skilled worker", and that it encompasses almost all job opportunities from cooks and cleaners, hospitality and tourism, to professionals, medical and transportation. I also see that some companies under First (in the train industry) do offer sponsorships. Although I am a current train operator here, I do understand that the system is totally different there and I would need to be trained in that system, hence the mention of the Trainee Train Driver role. I am not sure if that would totally disqualify me from the skilled worker criteria. That is what I am trying to find out now. When I learn more, I will be in contact again.

Thank you once again for your reply, and all the best to you.

    Best regards,

    Brian.
