Mark B. asked a question to Rowan A.
I am 48 and have no prior experience with trains, I have worked for the same company for the last 28 years.
Hi Mark,
You would need to apply for a Trainee Train Driver role - all of our current vacancies can be found on the job search page of our careers site. Regrettably, you've just missed the application deadline for a Trainee Train Driver campaign in Exeter, so it may be a little while before we advertise for this specific location again. If there are currently no vacancies that are of interest to you then at the bottom of the page there is the option to register for job alerts, which will allow you to be notified by email whenever a role is advertised that matches your set criteria.
The only minimum requirements for the role of Trainee Train Driver are:
* You must be at least 21 years of age to be accepted on to the training course, as this is an industry requirement.
* You'll need to live within 60 minutes travel time to the depot, without using public transport when it is not available. The safety responsibilities make this requirement a necessity.
* You will be needed to work shifts of varying start times, including weekends and nights.
* You'll need to pass a full driver medical which includes hearing, sight, and colour vision tests (using the Ishihara plates).
I hope this helps and wish you well in your endeavours.
Thank you Alex, I will continue to monitor and look out for new opportunities.
