Working shifts is not a problem for me, but I wonder if you could provide me with an overview of what a standard shift pattern would look like over say a month at GWR?

Gareth L. asked a question to Paul S.

I have already applied for a trainee driver position with GWR and currently work as an HGV Driver.

    Hi Gareth,

Thank you for your enquiry and apologies for the delayed response.

I presume you're querying the shift pattern for the role of a train driver?

Typically, GWR's train drivers work rotational weekly shifts across circa a 3-week period. The shifts themselves can vary from depot to depot, usually dependent on whether the depots have specific early and late links. Similarly, some drivers will have different route & traction knowledge, so the shift patterns can also be defined based on this. As such, it's very difficult to provide a 'standard' shift pattern.

What you can expect though, is to work a variety of shifts covering early mornings, late nights, weekends, and bank holidays. Due to the safety nature of the role however, you would never find yourself working an evening/night shift and then be expected to work a morning shift the following day, for example.

    I hope that helps.

Hi Alex, Thanks for the response. It does help. I wasn't expecting a full roster to be posted.
