Hello Grant,
It would be a case of you applying for a trainee position when you see one advertised. They do come up every few months but are often only advertised for a couple of days due to the sheer volume of applications that they attract, so it may be that you have just been missing them to date. Your best bet is to register for job alerts so that you'll be notified by email whenever a role is advertised that matches your set criteria - the facility to do this exists at the bottom of most pages across our careers site. Alternatively, you can keep regularly checking the job search page as all new vacancies are advertised here.
