Simulator Manager, Hull

 

Permanent / 37 hours per week

£77,517 per annum, plus benefits package, including free and discounted rail travel (British and International), company defined contribution pension scheme, 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays. We are recruiting for a Simulator Manager.

 

The purpose and objectives of this role are:

  • Reporting to the Head of Driver Operations, the Simulator Manager will work alongside other managers within the Operations team to deliver high-quality Simulator Training to enhance operations at Hull Trains.
  • To support Hull Trains in the development and delivery of their ETCS related Driver Training Simulator.
  • Conduct simulated training sessions relating to areas of train driving competency, especially relating to out of course scenarios and/or seasonal preparation. This will include examinations and assessments of competence related to the training undertaken.
  • Where required this role will also deliver practical handling training to train drivers.
  • Assisting Hull Trains with the development and delivery of efficient, cost-effective training plans.
  • Lead the introduction of the Training Simulator at Hull Trains to enhance their respective training, assessments and operational capabilities.
  • Support the conduct of testing activities including data recording and video recording (for use in training sessions) and any associated report production. Support any post testing activity e.g., lessons learned sessions.
  • Supporting Hull Trains with change management associated with the introduction of training simulators for the ECDP/ETCS project and the safety validation process application. Ensuring that the safety risks associated with change projects are identified, understood and mitigated prior to implementation.
  • Support in the daily operational functions of the Driver team.
  • As part of the management grade, there will be a requirement to form part of the on-call roster team and act as operational lead whilst undertaking these duties.

 

The knowledge or experience you will need:

  • UK Train Driving Licence Holder.
  • Vocational Training Qualification, or working towards.
  • Coaching and Mentoring Qualification/experience.
  • NVQ Assessor Qualification.
  • Current operational competence as a train driver, with a minimum of 3 years' experience.
  • Have or obtain traction competence in class 80X rolling stock.
  • Have or obtain route knowledge as required by the Operating Companies, this will initially be Doncaster – London and associated diversionary routes.
  • Understanding of ETCS principles: full understanding of Non-Technical Skills and Professional Driving
  • Be an experienced and competent user of the Microsoft Office Suite of programs.
  • Adept in the use of specialised technology and software packages. Previous experience in using Train Driving Simulators would be advantageous, but not essential.
  • A good communicator, able to collaborate with others and work well in a team environment.
  • Calm under pressure and able to respond to operational adverse events in a calm, professional and competent manner.
  • Flexible to the needs of the business, able to work both on own initiative and work well in a team environment to achieve goals.
