Is it possible to drive a train with one arm?
Hi GWR Team,
I have registered to receive alerts for trainee driver roles in my area. My left arm is paralysed and I would like to understand whether my application could be considered and whether I would need to incorporate any adaptations? Do you have any existing drivers who may be impaired in this way?

Why can you not have had laser eye surgery?
Hello, I'm currently a train driver and I’m interested in applying to one of your driver roles. I’ve noticed it says no laser eye surgery and I’m wondering for what reason as this excludes me. I’ve currently passed a driver medical to industry standard. Is this unique to first group. I know when laser eye surgery first came out and techniques were new some train companies would reject applicants with eye surgery but since the methods for surgery have improved and become mainstream most companies have dropped the ban on surgery.

Hello Paul, My 13-year-old son has been talking about his aspirations of becoming a train driver, please see below q's.
My granddad was a steam engine driver for around 40+ years out of Swindon. My 13-year-old son has been talking about his aspirations of becoming a train driver 'when he is older'. Could you please give me some detail about the level of education required to start training as a driver, the opportunities of work experience when the times comes for him and how he might apply and start training to become a train driver in the future.
